Poplar HARCA, East London
Award-Winning Housing Association Chooses Tamlite Lighting for LED Upgrade and Refurbishment Project
Poplar HARCA, an award-winning Housing and Regeneration Community Association in East London, is committed to creating safe and sustainable living spaces. To support these goals, Poplar HARCA partnered with Tamlite for an LED lighting upgrade and refurbishment project. The aim was to enhance both dwellings and communal areas across their property portfolio. Tamlite’s energy-efficient LED lighting solutions, integrated with advanced PIR sensor technology, were the ideal fit.
Project Overview
This partnership builds on Poplar HARCA’s previous collaboration with Tamlite, which saw the installation of LED panels and SOLAR bulkheads at the high-end Lanrick Road development. The success of this initial project, combined with Tamlite’s reputation for product reliability, paved the way for a larger-scale LED upgrade.
The recent project included installing a range of energy efficient, durable lighting fixtures, including MODLED ceiling luminaires, SATURN wall-mounted fittings, and NON-CORROSIVE luminaires. Tamlite’s dedication to quality and cost-effective solutions played a pivotal role in meeting Poplar HARCA’s high standards and advancing the organisation’s sustainable goals.
Energy Efficiency and Enhanced Lighting with Tamlite Solutions
Tamlite’s lighting designs were carefully selected to meet the demands of each area, delivering excellent illumination and significant energy savings:
• Corridor Lighting: Corridors were equipped with 86 MODLED ceiling luminaires, providing high-quality light distribution for communal walkways. The MODLED fittings, feature advanced LED lighting technology, ensuring superior visibility and contributing significantly to energy savings.
• Staircase Lighting: To enhance safety in stairwells, 56 SATURN wall-mounted lighting fittings were installed to ensure well-lit and secure staircases. Equipped with PIR sensors, these fixtures activate when motion is detected, maximising energy efficiency without compromising safety. This results in reduced energy consumption, with lights operating only when needed - supporting Poplar HARCA’s sustainability initiatives.
• Plant Room Illumination: In the plant room, 22 NON-CORROSIVE ceiling luminaires, designed to withstand challenging conditions such as moisture and dust. These robust, energy-saving fixtures are ideal for hard-to-reach areas where regular access is limited.
The inclusion of DALI lighting controls further enhanced operational efficiency providing an intelligent, wireless approach to lighting management. This system allows Poplar HARCA to monitor and control lighting performance with ease, optimising energy usage across multiple areas.
The Benefits of the Lighting Upgrade
Poplar HARCA’s decision to upgrade their lighting with Tamlite has delivered several key benefits, enhancing both the functionality and sustainability:
• Energy Savings and Cost Reduction
A major advantages of this upgrade is the reduction in energy consumption. Tamlite’s LED lighting solutions, combined with PIR sensors on external wall lights, enable efficient operation, resulting in lower electricity usage and reduced operational costs. In light of rising energy costs, these savings are crucial for housing associations managing large property portfolios.
• Enhanced Safety and Comfort
High-quality lighting, particularly in communal spaces like corridors and stairwells, is essential for resident safety and comfort. Tamlite’s luminaires deliver excellent illumination, reducing poorly lit areas and promoting safer navigation for residents. PIR sensors ensures lights activate only when needed, enhancing both security and energy savings.
• Reduced Maintenance Requirements
Tamlite’s durable LED lighting solutions significantly reduce maintenance demands on Poplar HARCA’s facilities team. Unlike traditional lighting, which requires frequent replacements, Tamlite’s energy-saving LED’s have a longer lifespan, saving both time and costs on routine maintenance.
• Environmental Impact
As a socially responsible housing association, Poplar HARCA is committed to minimising its environmental footprint. By transitioning to Tamlite’s energy-efficient lighting solutions, the organisation has made considerable progress toward its sustainability goals, reducing greenhouse gas emissions associated with traditional lighting systems.
Conclusion
The lighting upgrade and refurbishment project led by Tamlite has proven to be a resounding success. Poplar HARCA commented, "Tamlite had excellent communication with us throughout the entire process of providing bespoke fittings for our blocks. The LED lights Tamlite provided for this project were significantly brighter than our old stock, making our residents feel safer."
This initiative demonstrates how a well-planned LED lighting strategy can benefit housing associations, by reducing operational costs and supporting environmental goals. The partnership with Tamlite establishes a long-term foundation for efficient energy use and sustainable management across Popular HARCA’s properties.
