Driving deeper understanding of the far-reaching impacts of intelligently considered light and lighting is more important than ever. Recognising there was a clear appetite to hear from experts on key themes in our sector has seen us bring our industry together on two occasions for highly successful one-day thought leadership events.
In our second thought leadership event to date, we brought consultants and Lighting designers to the Midlands in March 2023, with a day at The Belfry full of insight and knowledge from an impressive line up of speakers. Our first was held at London's iconic venue The Shangri-La The Shard in October 2022.
With a clear gap in the market for quality thought leadership events, such has been its success we will be facilitating more events in 2023 and beyond.
Let's Talk About Light #2 - March 2023
Bringing together some of the UK lighting sectors most influential figures as presenters and panellists, Let’s Talk About Light #2 played host to some of the UK’s leading lighting designers and consulting engineers.
Alongside an inspirational keynote speech from architect, TV presenter and built environment campaigner George Clarke, we had talks from Bob Bohannon, Head of Policy and Academy at Lighting Industry Association (The LIA), Lead author of the Society of Light and Lighting’s Lighting Guide Update, Iain MacCrae and Strategic Solution Sales Manager at Tridonic UK, Simon Blazey.
Attendees, including representatives from Consultants, Electrical Engineering and local authorities, were treated to a programme of powerful of content. Each of the speakers was charged with informing and educating the audience on a wide range of environmental, sustainability and lighting compliance issues including the TM66 Circular Economy Assessment Method, the forthcoming update to the SLL’s Lighting for Education Guidance – as well the role of light in delivering the UK’s net zero building ambitions.
Connecting all the talks, including George Clarke’s keynote, was an impassioned plea for more holistic approaches to building design and management – as well as a less siloed approach to thinking about building services – and lighting in particular.

Inaugural event in October 2022
With a prestigious line-up of speakers, including the current and past President of the CIBSE’s Society of Light & Lighting, our Let’s Talk About Light event played host to nearly 60 of the UK’s leading lighting designers and consulting engineers. With everyone gathered at The Shard, it gave people the chance to relax, catch up, make new acquaintances, and start conversations about light, lighting, and everything in between!
A wide range of topics were covered, with environmental and sustainability issues, as well as human health and wellbeing, and the power of light - both natural and artificial, being the connecting theme running across all four sessions.
