Alfred Place - East London
Alfred Place Partners with Tamlite Lighting to Transform their Offices with Smart Lighting Solution
The Project
Alfred Place enlisted the services of Direct Synergy as the Mechanical and Electrical consultants, who appointed Tamlite Lighting as their lighting partner. The objective was to upgrade Alfred Place's existing lighting fixtures to achieve maximum energy savings and intuitive lighting system. With the use of advanced LED technology, the lighting systems could be controlled and monitored remotely. Tamlite’s approach resulted in a highly successful solution for their building.
The Design and The Solution
Direct Synergy began their involvement from RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Stage 3 on this project. Having successfully collaborated on a number of previous projects, they had no hesitation in utilising the expertise and high-quality luminaires of Tamlite Lighting. Direct Synergy sought guidance on the best control system available to meet the design brief. This is to optimise lux levels in the Ground Reception, 3rd and 4th Floor areas. Essential requirements included wireless connectivity for remote control usage, intelligent analytics to monitor lighting performance, and the flexibility to group luminaires for lighting adjustments. Furthermore, following a detailed evaluation, Tamlite's Vision Smart system was selected as the ideal solution. This lighting control platform offered a range of features that aligned with the project's objectives.
The Key Features and Benefits
The Vision Smart system delivers a wireless control solution, removing the need for extensive wiring and simplifying installation. Moreover, with real-time monitoring, Vision Smart optimises both lighting performance and energy use. Additionally, the Vision Air Hub integrates seamlessly with DALI-2 compatible products, providing flexibility in the Ground Floor Reception area. Its zoning feature also enables efficient control of luminaires across various lighting zones.
Furthermore, Tamlite Lighting used the highly successful SIGNUM luminaires within the office space at Alfred Place. These luminaires, known for their architecturally pleasing lighting choice, combined aesthetics with controlled performance for this project. In addition, Tamlite incorporated integral daylight sensors which automatically adjusts lighting based on natural light levels, significantly reducing energy conception. For the corridors, Tamlite used IKON Medium Beam luminaires with a high-output reflector and integrated emergency options for optimal illumination. Meanwhile, the IKON X fixtures in WCs delivered substantial energy savings by activating only in response to occupancy. Similarly, SOLAR S models were installed in stairwells, while THREAD luminaires were chosen to enhance the Ground Floor Reception. Together, these luminaires created a welcoming and visually appealing entrance at Alfred Place.
Additionally, the installation aligns with Alfred Place's sustainability goals of energy savings, modern lighting control systems and daylight dimming through LED technology. The use of daylight sensors added further energy efficiency by dimming the fittings when natural light was present in office space.
The Implementation and Challenges
Anand Desai, Partner at Direct Synergy, has commented, "This project ran smoothly with no major obstacles. Upgrading Alfred Place's old lighting technology to Tamlite's energy-efficient LED lighting addressed the high energy costs and sustainability objectives. We are very pleased with Tamlite's experience and their Vision Smart system's user-friendly interface helped for a successful installation."
Ultimately, Tamlite's wireless Vision Smart system exceeds expectations, offering advanced features, ease of use, and notable energy saving. Alfred Place have become a highly satisfied client with a modern, efficient lighting environment.
