Blackpool Pleasure Beach is one of the most iconic tourist attractions in the North of England, and in 2018 launched its latest rollercoaster, ICON.
ICON is the UK’s first “double-launch” rollercoaster. Riders experiencing the same acceleration as an F1 car at the beginning and middle of the ride.
The rollercoaster train itself, where thrill-seekers will be clinging on as they reach speeds of up to 85km/h, was supplied with innovative Tamlite Lighting luminaires. This added to the design of the attraction and creating a stunning spectacle for onlookers on the ground.
The CITY LF floodlighting system was specified for the ICON. Designed to deliver aesthetic excellence in lighting, it was particularly important for a town renowned for its “illuminations”.
This means that after dark, the ICON looks spectacular. With the two strips of light either side of the train moving quickly about the track, it gives a mesmerising effect for those watching.
All-weather lighting solution
The lighting is a key factor in the aesthetic display of the rollercoaster. It was crucial that the Tamlite lighting solution was capable of functioning in an external environment.
The CITY LF has been designed to withstand a range of weather conditions. With its IP65 rated body ensuring that it is resistant from water and dust ingress, it's critical it withstands a hazardous environment such as on a rollercoaster.
